Causes of Low back pain can be from spinal muscles, nerves,
bones, discs or tendons in the lumbar spine. Typical sources of low back pain
include:
- Nerve root compression by Disc Herniation which presents as back and leg pain.
- Back muscles sprain as a result of accident, worker injury or trauma.
- Degeneration of disc.
- Arthritis of facet joints or fracture of vertebral body.
Younger individual are more likely to experience back pain
from the muscle sprain, disc herniation or degenerative disc disease.
Older adults are more likely to suffer from pain related to
osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis or compression fracture.
Patients with low back pain are encouraged to maintain their
daily routine and should not bed rest. Majority of acute back pain will subside
on its own, but persistent back pain patients should see their primary care
physician and Pain specialist, if pain persists. Most cases of low back pain do
not require urgent care except trauma, Fever and chills, unexplained recent
weight loss, significant leg weakness, sudden bowel and bladder incontinence.
